Purpose & Planning: Designing a Playground That Does More

The school approached TBS Group with a clear goal — to replace outdated, unsafe playground features with something brighter, safer, and more inclusive. The challenge was to design an outdoor play area that encouraged physical activity and imaginative play, while meeting strict safety and accessibility standards.

We began by working closely with the school’s leadership and staff to understand how children used their outdoor space. This helped us design a layout that balanced active play zones, quiet areas, and sensory-friendly equipment, ensuring all pupils could enjoy the space regardless of age or ability.

Safety was a top priority from the start. Every material, surface, and structure was chosen to reduce risk while still offering freedom to explore and have fun.

Construction & Installation: Built for Fun, Engineered for Safety

Once the design was finalised, our team prepared the site by clearing old, damaged structures and levelling the ground for a smooth installation.

We began by installing impact-absorbing safety flooring, using soft rubber surfacing that met British safety standards. This provided a durable yet cushioned foundation — ideal for both energetic play and long-term weather resistance.

Next came the soft play equipment installation — vibrant climbing structures, slides, tunnels, and interactive elements designed to engage both body and mind. Each piece was installed securely, anchored on reinforced foundations, and tested for safety compliance.

Our team also introduced brightly coloured ground graphics and tactile play panels to stimulate creativity and sensory engagement. Together, these features turned a once plain playground into an exciting environment that encourages teamwork, exploration, and joy.

Safety, Compliance & Attention to Detail

Every piece of equipment was inspected and certified to meet BS EN 1176 and 1177 safety standards for playground installations. We conducted thorough post-installation checks to ensure surfaces, fixtures, and impact areas were fully compliant and ready for use.

The project was finished with soft edging, fencing, and signage, creating a secure environment for children to play safely under supervision.

Our attention to detail extended to the finishing phase — ensuring the playground was clean, accessible, and ready to bring smiles from day one.
